RP 62 1985 April Harris Pond looking south from the site of the former Midland Division railroad tracks. Harris Pond was created by Edward Harris when he dammed the Mill River in the early 1860's in order to create a mill trench for manufacturing in his mills on Privilege Street. The "privilege" to these water rights granted by the state of Rhode Island gave this section of the city and the street its name.
